Fans of the Persona series might need to exercise patience for a few more years awaiting the next installment. However, for those eager to experience engaging social mechanics and turn-based battles, one of October’s most anticipated releases should be on their radar. Over the years, Atlus and SEGA have transformed the Persona franchise into one of the most cherished JRPG series available. Now, they are venturing into new territory. By assembling several prominent creators, Atlus intends to revitalize the formula by offering enthusiasts a completely new universe.
As noted by video game journalist Jason Schreier on X (previously known as Twitter), Persona fans should mark their calendars for October 11, the launch date for Metaphor: ReFantazio.
While it may not carry the Persona name, the involvement of key figures responsible for shaping the series ensures that it may ease the anticipation for Persona 6. Although some fans might be hesitant due to Metaphor’s setting in the unique world of the United Kingdom of Euchronia, the gameplay and aesthetic will feel comfortably familiar.
Why Persona Fans Should Care About Metaphor
Bringing Great Minds Together
One of the most thrilling aspects of Metaphor: ReFantazio is that it is being developed by Studio Zero, an in-house team at Atlus, featuring influential figures from the latest Persona games. The project is led by Katsura Hashino, the director of Persona 5 and a producer on Persona 4 Golden. Character designs are crafted by Shigenori Soejima, whose contributions span the entire Persona series. Additionally, the score is composed by Shoji Meguro, a veteran with Atlus since 1996.
On the gameplay front, Metaphor: ReFantazio incorporates numerous elements that Persona enthusiasts cherish. Players will engage in daily management to explore the world, delve into dungeons, and bond with friends and allies, enhancing stats and skills in the process. The turn-based combat will feature the protagonist and their party summoning formidable creatures, all depicted in a style that will be instantly recognizable to fans of Persona 5 Royal.
Persona 5 Mechanics Persona 6 Should Definitely Avoid
Scheduled for release on October 11 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, Metaphor: ReFantazio has been in development since its announcement in 2016. The extended development timeline is hoped to have yielded impressive results. Without a doubt, Persona fans should be eagerly anticipating the upcoming month.
