One year after the initial release of Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios is preparing to unveil the game’s first significant expansion, Shattered Space, on September 30, 2024. This new DLC is anticipated to embrace a horror theme as players embark on a journey to the uncharted planet of Va’ruun’kai, the domain of the House Va’ruun, known for its devotion to the Great Serpent.
In a recent update from Bethesda Game Studios’ official X account, the expansive nature of this addition has been highlighted, promising over 50 new locations ripe for exploration on Va’ruun’kai. Players will have access to new weaponry, including grenades fashioned from a “gross” organic material. The teaser also hints at “formidable new enemies” alongside familiar adversaries, such as the Zealots, Spacers, and the Crimson Fleet.
Shattered Space Promises a Wealth of Content on Its New Planet
The Entire Expansion Unfolds on Va’ruun’kai
It was previously disclosed that Shattered Space would be set entirely on Va’ruun’kai, though players retain the freedom to leave the planet at their discretion. This setting choice might surprise those accustomed to Starfield’s vast scope, as the original game featured 1,000 planets spread across 100 star systems. Nevertheless, it appears that Bethesda has enriched this single planet with abundant content, offering numerous meticulously crafted locations to explore, in contrast to the procedurally generated planets in the base game that were criticized for their lack of vibrancy.
Starfield: Shattered Space DLC Release Date, Price, & New Story Details
While encountering religious zealots on Va’ruun’kai is anticipated, given House Va’ruun’s secretive nature, the presence of other groups like the Spacers and the Crimson Fleet is more unexpected. Previews have clarified that the Vortexes scattered throughout the planets are consequences of catastrophic Grav Drive experiments, drawing beings from alternate dimensions. With the planet in turmoil, House Va’ruun may no longer be able to maintain its secrecy, rendering it a target for various malevolent factions from both the current reality and beyond.
Featuring a captivating new narrative, an entirely new planet, and a mix of new and familiar threats, Shattered Space promises a wealth of excitement for players upon its release later this month. In the meantime, Starfield has been updated with several recent enhancements to the base game, including the long-awaited inclusion of land vehicles, which will undoubtedly prove useful when navigating Va’ruun’kai and provide players with ample reasons to revisit the game prior to the new expansion.
