Keanu Reeves Joins Sonic X Shadow Generations as Shadow’s Voice
Renowned actor Keanu Reeves is set to lend his voice to Shadow the Hedgehog in the eagerly awaited game, Sonic X Shadow Generations. However, there’s a twist. During the September State of Play event, fans were treated to a preview of Reeves voicing the iconic hedgehog, but not everyone will have the opportunity to experience it firsthand.
Only those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will gain access to the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC. This exclusive content includes a special level inspired by the upcoming movie, where players can control Shadow, voiced by Reeves. As the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie makes its way to theaters, players will get an early glimpse of Reeves’ portrayal with the DLC release on December 12.
This marks the second time in the Sonic franchise that Shadow is featured as a playable protagonist and the first time Keanu Reeves steps into the Sonic universe. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is slated to hit theaters on December 20, just over a week after the exclusive movie-inspired level becomes available in the game.

The development of this new game aligns with the release of the third Sonic movie. Takashi Iizuka, during an interview with Screen Rant at Gamescom, revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will prominently feature Shadow, influencing the direction of the game.
“We aimed to make this truly the year of Shadow, highlighting him not only in the movies but in the games as well. We wanted to showcase Shadow’s cool persona and provide fans another platform to enjoy and understand what makes him such a compelling character,” Iizuka explained.

Keanu Reeves is no stranger to the gaming industry. Fans may recall his debut as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, where he provided both his voice and likeness. He returned to this role for the 2023 DLC, Phantom Liberty, and reprised his iconic role as Neo in The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience. In Sonic X Shadow Generations, however, Kirk Thornton is expected to voice Shadow in the base game, continuing his long-standing association with the character.
